Escrow Holdback

In one sentence

Funds retained at closing to cover an incomplete item, released when the condition is satisfied.

The longer version

Holdbacks let a deal close with a loose end: repairs not finished, a document pending, taxes in dispute. Money is held and released against defined conditions rather than delaying the whole closing.

Release conditions and deadlines make or break a holdback, so they are tracked as post-closing items with owners and dates.
